The two monorails under construction in the city of São Paulo will be granted to the private sector until June, according to the Secretaria de Estado dos Transportes Metropolitanos (Secretary of State for Metropolitan Transportation). The government should soon launch the notice for the concession of Line 17-Gold, the monorail in the South Zone of the city, together with Line 5-Lilac from the conventional subway system and still in the first semester the notice for the Line 15-Silver monorail, in the East Zone, which already has a section in operation.
According to the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, the lines will be granted in a model that provides for a issuance – a cash payment of the interested private agent. In return, the winning company will be entitled to a cash value per passenger transported.
Line 2-Green
The São Paulo government is also considering granting the private sector the extension of Line 2-Green of the subway to Guarulhos, in Greater São Paulo. The project foresees 14 km and 13 new stations linking Vila Prudente to Dutra.
The secretary of Metropolitan Transportation, Clodoaldo Pelissioni, confirmed the information to the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo. The Line 2 has the project ready and some expropriations already executed. In addition, the line already has environmental license and signed contracts.
