The Metropolitan Region of Natal, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, in the Northeast of Brazil, will receive a new passenger transport line on rails. The Brazilian government began works on Purple Line of the Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU), which will be 4.2 kilometers long and have three new stations. About 2,000 passengers will benefit per day in the capital and in the cities of Extremoz and São Gonçalo do Amarante.

Federal Government will invest R$ 14.8 million in the works, of which R$ 8.7 million have already been released. CBTU in Rio Grande do Norte transports 11.6 thousand people per day on average. The system has 56.6 kilometers of railway lines and 23 stations.
