MetrôRio provides lockers at stations for customers to withdraw purchases made over the internet

Beginning in November, MetrôRio, a Rio de Janeiro city subway system operator, will offer internet-connected smart locker service at 38 of its 41 stations. The lockers will be collection points to receive goods purchased by e-commerce. The initiative, which is pioneer in the public transportation system in Brazil, ensures more agility and security in the delivery service of products purchased online.

With the new self-service smart terminals, customers will be able to pick up or return products purchased from the internet on a routine basis, on their way home or to work, on the nearest MetrôRio station. After making an online purchase and selecting the reference place to pickup, the customer will receive a QR CODE that will electronically open the compartment door for them to pick up their product.
