Contactless ticket payments increased by 60% on the Rio de Janeiro Metro in March. In partnership with Visa, MetrôRio accepts contactless cards in the accesses to its 41 stations since April 2019. Contactless payments use NFC (Near-field communication) technology and eliminate the need to buy the ticket or load the card carriage.
