Study on train between São Paulo capital and countryside ready this month

Pre-feasibility studies on the implementation of the Intercity Train in São Paulo should be ready this month. In its totality, the project aims to serve a geographical region that encompasses the capital of the State of São Paulo, its metropolitan region and places such as Santos, Sorocaba, Campinas and São José dos Campos.

In February, the São Paulo government signed an authorization for the Department of Highways to contract a study to develop a new transport system for this vast region. The lead time is 20 months. But, within 90 days of signing, a deadline that expires at the end of this month, studies on the implementation of the Intercity Train between the city of São Paulo and Americana, in the State of São Paulo, should be made available.

When ready, the study will be sent to the Union for the definition of railroad sharing rules. It is necessary that the federal government make the lines under its management available for the passenger trains to use them. International bidding for the project cost US$ 6 million. It is being completed by the consortium Pro-TL – made up of five companies.
