The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR) of Brazil and the State Secretariat for Infrastructure and Mobility of Minas Gerais (Seinfra) held a public hearing to present the studies and model the concession to the private sector of the Belo Horizonte Metro. The system is operated by Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU) in the capital of the State of Minas Gerais.

The concession provides for the modernization and expansion of Line 1 and the construction of Line 2 in Belo Horizonte, with services operating for 30 years. BRL 3.2 billion will be allocated to the subway, of which BRL 2.8 billion from the Federal Government and around BRL 428 million from the Government of Minas Gerais. Total investments are estimated at R$ 3.7 billion and will be complemented by the private sector.

The planned investments are:

• Acquisition of 24 trains;
• Renovation of 19 stations on line 1;
• Construction of 7 stations on line 2;
• Renovation, expansion and construction of patios and workshops;
• Revitalization of the permanent way;
• Revitalization of the air network;
• Acquisition of track and air network maintenance equipment;
• Updating of the signaling and telecommunications system;
• Revitalization of the energy system, with the implementation of generators and rectifier substations;
• CCO update;
• Among others.
