Rio de Janeiro regulates the implementation of interoperability in the ticketing system in transportation

The Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro published, at the beginning of February, the decree regulating the implementation of interoperability in the ticketing system in the transportation of the Rio de Janeiro State’s jurisdiction and the obligation for all dealers to issue and market the transportation vouchers. These measures will bring greater convenience to users, who will be able to use their electronic tickets in an integrated way in the various means of transportation (regardless of their issuer).

Initially, these changes should be applied by August 3. The costs for the physical and systemic adaptations will be the responsibility of the transport operators.

The decree is part of the Term of Commitment signed between the State Government, Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office, which provides for the bidding for contracting a transportation transaction processing system using public resources, in addition to consolidating the data generated by the modalities that make up the inter-municipal electronic ticketing system.

The preliminary term is available for public consultation on the website of the Secretary of State for Transport of Rio de Janeiro and contributions will be received until March 11 for analysis and improvement of the material.

The winning company shall consolidate the transportation information of all dealers and licensees. With this data, the state will be able to develop new transport studies, and companies will be able offer tariff integration alternatives and promotions for use or purchase of credits.
