With the drop in passenger demand on public transport due to the worldwide pandemic caused by Covid-19, the subways, urban trains and Light Rail Vehicles systems in Brazil showed a 31.7% reduction in the number of passengers transported in the 1st quarter/2020. The data are part of the Balance Sheet for the 1st Quarter/2020 of the Brazilian Metro Rail Sector, which suffered a strong impact from the pandemic, released by the National Association of Passenger Rail Operators (ANPTrilhos), an entity that represents Brazilian metro rail operators.
In the last 15 days of March alone, ANPTrilhos estimates that operators lost R$ 500 million in revenue from tickets alone.
