The bidding notice for the construction of the Light Rail Vehicle (VLT) of Salvador (in the State of Bahia, in the Northeast of Brazil) is due to be launched by the end of January. The new system will replace the Trens no Subúrbio system in Salvador.
The stretch to be bid will be approximately 19 km long, from Comércio to São Luiz Avenue, in Paripe, with the capacity to transport around 90 thousand people a day. The entire route will be covered in 40 minutes.
The project is expected to start work in the second half of 2018, with conclusion in 24 months. The estimated investment is R$ 1.5 billion. The bidding notice for the new Salvador system was launched in 2017, but was twice suspended by the courts.
