In December, the Government of the State of Bahia signed the service order for the implementation of the Light Rail Vehicle (VLT) in Salvador, capital of Bahia. The services will be performed by the Skyrail Bahia consortium, composed by Metrogreen and Build Your Dreams (BYD). The Light Rail will connect the neighborhood of Comércio, in Salvador, and the locality known as Ilha de São João, located in Simões Filho, in the metropolitan region. The works will cost R $ 2 billion.
According to Governor Rui Costa, in addition to offering more comfortable mobility for the population, the expectation with the implementation of the VLT is also to increase employability in the region, which will certainly attract new developments, such as hotels, inns, restaurants, among others.
The system will be 19.2 km long and have 21 stations, with a capacity to transport 172 thousand people daily. The forecast is that the entire system will be in operation within two years.
