The São Paulo Metro started the Digital Origin-Destination (OD) Survey, which will collect travel data in Greater São Paulo through a smartphone application. This will be a pilot test to evaluate the possibility of using new technologies in the elaboration of the largest mobility research in Brazil.
The survey will be carried out in stages with 10,000 people to determine the places where they travel, the modes used and the reasons. At this stage, some participants of OD 2017 are receiving SMS messages being invited to collaborate, installing an application on their smartphones and authorizing the collection of GPS data for seven consecutive days. On three of these days, the respondent must edit the trips through the application, informing the reason and the mode of travel used. A pre-test has already been carried out only with Metro employees and there will be a third phase, open to the general population.
