Five São Paulo companies showed interest in the design of projects for the implementation of the Light Rail Vehicle in Sorocaba, a city in the interior of the State of São Paulo. The companies that participated in the public call are: PowerChina Brasil Construtora Ltda; Benvenuto Engenharia S/S Ltda and Systra Engenharia e Consultoria Ltda; Pavan Engenharia e Participações and Steer Davies & Gleave do Brasil; 23 Sul Arquitetura and Consórcio VLT Quanta.

According to the City Hall, studies on the implementation of the light rail are necessary for the structuring of projects and subsequent evaluation of the possible models of concession contracts, whether in the form of common concession or Public-Private Partnership (PPP) sponsored. The estimate is that the system will carry 150 thousand to 200 thousand passengers per day. The project provides for the use of the existing railway line.
