The Skyrail Bahia Consortium, composed of Build Your Dreams – BYD Brasil and Metrogreen, was the winner of the bidding for the implementation and operation of the Light Rail Vehicle (VLT, in Portuguese) of the Railroad Suburbs of Salvador, capital of the State of Bahia, in the Brazilian Northeast. The business model was Public-Private Partnership (PPP), with annual consideration of R $ 152,977,352.12. The notice guarantees the physical integration of the VLT with the subway system of the city of Salvador.
The system that will replace the current Trem do Subúrbio will be 19.9 km long with 22 stations. Interventions are planned by stretches: the first, between the Comércio and the Calçada station, 3.5 km long; the second, between Calçada and Baixa do Fiscal, 1.1 km long; and the third, between the Baixa do Fiscal and Ilha de São João, in the municipality of Simões Filho, 15.3 km long. The system will have the capacity to carry around 200 thousand commuters per day.
The current 10 stations of the Suburban trains will be deactivated and reused to provide other services to the community, such as Police stations and service centers.
