The National Association of Passenger Rail Operators (ANPTrilhos) participated at the end of November of the launching of the program “Facial Biometry in the Public Transportation System”, of the Government of the Federal District, in the Brazilian capital, Brasília. The event was attended by the Governor of Brasília Rodrigo Rollemberg; the Secretary of Mobility Fábio Ney Damasceno; the President of the Metrô-DF, operator of the Metro of Brasília, Marcelo Dourado; and other authorities.

The Facial Biometrics program is part of the “Circula Brasília” project of the Federal District Government’s Office of Mobility (SEMOB), and aims to avoid fraud and ensure the proper use of the benefits of free public transportation in the DF, making the system of free public transportation less expensive to the state government. The program was on test since 2016.

The choice of the evaluation through facial biometrics to the detriment of digital biometrics occurred due to possible difficulties in reading the biometrics, as in the case of the elderly citizens, thus avoiding possible embarrassments. Less likely case in facial biometrics.
