The Federal Government and the State of Minas Gerais announced R$ 3.2 billion in investments in the expansion and improvements of the Belo Horizonte Metro, operated by Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU) in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, capital of the State of Minas General.

According to the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR), the Federal Government will invest R$2.8 billion and the Government of Minas Gerais R$428 million. The investment is part of the privatization process of CBTU Belo Horizonte, which is linked to the MDR, and had privatization qualified in the Investment Partnership Program. The MDR forecast is that the public notice for the concession of the lines will be released in early 2022.

The investment foresees improvements in Line 1 and expansion with Novo Eldorado station; the implementation of Line 2, between the Calafate district and the Barreiro region, in Belo Horizonte. The line in operation at CBTU Belo Horizonte has 28.1 km and 19 stations, connecting the capital of Minas Gerais to Contagem, in the Metropolitan Region.
