The Government of the State of Bahia must enter into a partnership with private investors to make feasible the remodelling project of the suburban train from Salvador to a Veículo Leve sobre Trilhos system (VLT – Light Rail). The Bahia VLT project is budgeted at R$ 1.5 billion and the state government is receiving private proposals to finance it. The bidding is expected to be launched in the first semester of this year.
According to the report by Valor Econômico, The government has already received a proposal from the financial company Indico, from United Kingdom. The institution offered 466 million euros (R$ 1.5 billion) at 3% interest, with a grace period of three years and payment in 15 years. The Chief of Staff of Bahia, Bruno Dauster told the newspaper that the government had already signed a pre-contract with Indico but was still receiving proposals. The French Development Agency also showed interest in the project.
The VLT will be 18.5 kilometers long and have 21 stations, in a 40 minute route. The works are expected to start within 90 days after the contract is signed, with a deadline of 24 months.
