MetrôRio passengers will be more connected when using the stations and trains. In partnership with the telephone operators Claro, Oi, Tim and Vivo, Rio’s subway system is receiving a new and modern telecommunications network. Altogether, there will be over 30 km with the fiber optic connection via cable that will guarantee improvements in the signal quality for cell phones and will extend the coverage of the 4G internet network in all underground stations, galleries and tunnels of Lines 1, 2 and 4.
The project was divided into four phases and is expected to be completed by December. The Distributed Antenna System (DAS) of the new network has the installation of new antennas, cables, receivers and transmitters, which, when connected to the base station of communication, enable the amplification of the signal for mobile telephony, both for calls and for Internet access.
