Urban mobility is essential for the well-being and quality of life of citizens. The constant traffic jams in medium and large urban centers evidence the need for a change in the transportation matrix of Brazilians. Meeting this demand requires planning. One may no longer think of urban transportation singly, where each alternative is separately considered, without integrating with the others.
Passenger transportation on rails is a fast, efficient and safe solution. Despite the historical lack of investments for the expansion of the Brazilian metro-rail network, contributions are being made and may change the scenario of rail passenger transportation in Brazil.
