The Metro System of Salvador and Lauro de Freitas, in the state of Bahia, has adopted the Japanese security method known as shisa kanko, which aims to increase the concentration of train operators in operation. The technique of gesturing, pointing and talking to oneself helps to improve performance and reduces errors in functions that require attention. The method emerged at the beginning of the 20th century, on the Japanese railway lines to check that everything was in order with the signs. The subway in Bahia is one of the few systems to use the technique in Brazil.
According to experiences at Hiroshima University in Japan, mistakes were reduced by 86% for people who practiced pointing and speaking.
