The President of the National Association of Passenger Rail Operators (ANPTrilhos) Joubert Flores participated in the webinar “Impact and adaptation of Latin American railways to Covid-19”, promoted by the Union International of Railways (UIC), on June 22nd.

Joubert Flores gave a presentation on measures adopted in Brazil to combat the coronavirus, in the panel “Focus on the case of Latin American networks: facing Covid-19: development of management systems”.

The President of ANPTrilhos explained that the metro-rail sector has been suffering a sharp drop in demand since the beginning of the pandemic and ANPTrilhos, an entity that represents the operators of the systems, estimates a deficit of R$ 3.1 billion only in relation to the loss on tariff revenue. He also explained that ANPTrilhos is in constant contact with government agencies to present the necessary measures for maintaining the operation of the systems.

The event was attended by the Director General of UIC, François Davenne; the Chairman of UIC in Latin America, Guilherme Quintella; the Head of the UIC Task Force related to Covid-19 and Coordinator of the Latin American Region, Marc Guigon; and lectures by representatives of entities and companies from Brazil, Japan, Greece, Argentina, Paraguay and Guatemala.

During the webinar, UIC announced that it will make available on its website guides that address issues such as social isolation, the resumption of the sector and the economic impacts on systems in the face of the pandemic.
