Juscelino Kubitschek and Padre Cícero stations of the Southern Line of Fortaleza Metro (Metrofor), in Ceará, will have photovoltaic solar energy equipment. Metrofor has already started the process for the acquisition of equipment, assembly and installation of equipment to capture solar energy at both stations.
After the implementation of the systems, the solar energy generated at the stations will be transferred to the electricity grid, and then reverted to the subway, as credit for electric production, which will imply compensation in the company’s energy bills. It is estimated that the amount of solar energy produced in both stations will cover the electrical demand of at least four stations on the Southern Line. Metrofor is already analyzing the possibilities of installing solar panels in other stations.
