Works of the Salvador monorail start in 6 months

The Government of the State of Bahia has signed a R$ 1.5 billion contract for the construction of the monorail system, connecting Comércio district in Salvador to the island of São João in the city of Simões Filho, Bahia. The monorail will replace the current train system that runs the Calçada Station line to the Paripe district in the Suburb Railway, benefiting over 600,000 residents in the region. Being about 20 km long with 22 stations, the system will have the capacity to carry around 150 thousand users per day.

The winning consortium was Skyrail Bahia, made up of Build Your Dreams (BYD Brasil) and Metrogreen, responsible for the implementation and operation of the system. The work will be carried out through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) modality.
