The Skyrail Bahia Consortium, made up of Build Your Dreams – BYD Brasil and Metrogreen, was announced by the Government of the State of Bahia as the winner of the bidding for construction and operation of the Light Rail Vehicle of the Suburb of Salvador, after the Bidding Commission of the Department of Urban Development (Sedur) of Bahia to complete the qualification analysis and approve the documents of the winning consortium that took place on May 24. Works are due to start in November this year.
The approval of the economic proposal was made in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a discount of 0.01% in the annual consideration, which will be of R$ 152,977,352.12. The total investment planned to implement the Light Rail is R$ 1.5 billion.
Of the high monorail type, the metropolitan modal, which will link the region of Comércio in Salvador to São João Island, in the municipality of Simões Filho, will be moved by electric propulsion, without emission of polluting agents that harm the environment. The VLT will be equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi connection. The VLT will be about 20 km long, with 22 stations, and will replace the current Trem do Subúrbio.
