National Association of Passenger Rail Operators created two strategic committees dedicated to each of the themes, which brought together specialists from Brazilian metro-railway operators to monitor the studies. The studies were carried out with non-refundable resources from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).
The National Association of Passenger Rail Operators (ANPTrilhos, in Portuguese) held the closing ceremony of the Energy Efficiency and Asset Management studies, carried out by the Association with non-refundable funds from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). The ceremony took place last Monday (27/03), in Brasília (DF), and was attended by the Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs of the American Embassy, Scott Shaw; the USTDA representative in Brazil, Rodrigo Mota; and Fabíola Rios, commercial specialist for the Transport Sector.
The ceremony was also attended by Antonio Carlos Sanches, Executive Vice President of ANPTrilhos and President of SuperVia; Roberto Labarthe, Institutional Vice-President and executive of the CCR group; Luiz Eduardo Argenton, ANPTrilhos Planning Vice-President and CPTM Director; Carlos Martins, President of the Bahia Transport Company (CTB); Plinio Saboya, President of Metrofor; Andre Costa, President of CCR Metrô Bahia and VLT Carioca; Francisco Pierrini, President of ViaQuatro and ViaMobilidade; Celplan representatives, Cristine Korowacjzuk, Paulo César Ventosa, Washington Luiz de Araújo and Ricardo Cadar; from Sinapsis, Marcelo Pelegrini and Gustavo Camargo; from Systra, Marc-Olivier Malliefaud and Gracie Cristina Machado; of the members of the study work groups and the ANPTrilhos team – Fernanda Adjuto, João Costa, Wilma Tomé and Bruna Martins.
“It is an honor for ANPTrilhos and the metro-railway passenger sector in Brazil to have the cooperation of the USTDA to carry out these studies, which will certainly contribute to efficiency and cost reduction related to the management of assets and energy in our systems”, explained the Chairman of the Board of ANPTrilhos, Joubert Flores.
During the ceremony, the Executive Director of ANPTrilhos, Roberta Marchesi, explained that the relationship between ANPTrilhos and the American agency began in 2014, when the first mission to the United States was organized, under the coordination of ANPTrilhos. This mission gave rise to the first study financed by the American agency, which dealt with on-board video surveillance. This study resulted in the generation of investments in this area and helped Brazilian operators in defining the technology to be used for data transmission
“We were very proud of the agency’s confidence when, in 2021, we were awarded the funding not of a new study, but two at the same time. Along with this confidence came an increase in our responsibility as an entity, in managing the studies entrusted to us. We are sure that these studies will contribute to new policies and actions focused on energy efficiency, as well as so that our operators can advance in the implementation of a more modern vision on the management of their assets”, highlighted Roberta.
To carry out the studies, an international public call was opened by the USTDA and the companies selected to conduct them were Celplan, CelPlan Brasil, Sinapsis and Systra. ANPTrilhos created two strategic committees dedicated to each of the themes, which brought together specialists from Brazilian metro-railway operators in each of these areas to monitor, evaluate and approve all phases of the studies carried out. The committees were coordinated by Eli Canetti, Consultant at ANPTrilhos.
“It was months of intense learning, and we are sure that the knowledge acquired will be of great relevance for the development of future projects for the company. We appreciate the commitment, dedication and excellence shown by the institutions throughout the process. It is an honor to have them as partners”, explains Izabel Cristina G. de Souza Amaral, from SuperVia’s Assets sector and member of the Asset Management Working Group.
Paulo Lomando, Trensurb’s Corporate Risk Manager participated in the same group and highlighted: “ANPTrilhos and USTDA have given us the opportunity to create unique and meaningful work, which opens up a universe of possibilities for creating accurate and effective solutions. before one of the best and largest banks of information from genuine and primary sources and has great competitive value for the modernity of the sector”.
The Advisor to the Board of Directors of Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM), Sergio Barbosa, was also part of the group and explained that the implementation of Asset Management is part of CPTM’s strategic planning and the study carried out should guide decision-making and organization strategies in implementing the process. “For CPTM, the study process on this topic, made possible by the USTDA and ANPTrilhos and conducted by CelPlan, was a unique opportunity, using our own data, updating us on what is practiced internationally and giving us a better view of the current stage and an idea of the processes, costs and strategies necessary for implementation in our company”.
Davi Martins Lamas Vital, Electrical Engineer and Systems Manager at Trensurb, participated in the energy efficiency study group. “I found it very interesting to participate in the whole work, as it was a very broad study both in the geographic sense, encompassing large and important operators, and in the technical sense, since several disciplines about energy efficiency were visited. In addition, the work made it possible to meet peers from other operators to exchange information and experiences, strengthening the network of professional contacts. All of this greatly leverages the performance of both people and companies.”
