MetrôRio starts fee payment via Near Field Communication

MetrôRio, operator of the Rio de Janeiro subway system, began accepting fee payment through cell phone, credit card, wristband and NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, by bringing the devices closer to the turnstiles readers.

According to MetrôRio, with this new form of payment, the passenger will no longer need to buy or recharge a specific subway card. Just go to one of the validators flagged with the use of new technology and approach the personal credit card or mobile device with NFC technology. The cost will be charged directly on the invoice, at no additional cost or at the end of each day of use.

MetrôRio is the first operator in the world to use the new Visa Secure Access Module (SAM) global solution, which allows the acceptance of any card, cell or device with the proximity payment technology, without the need to change its current infrastructure of validators. This solution, under testing since last year, was developed in partnership with Planeta Informática, Ingenico Group and Digicon. Cielo is the acquiring partner in the implementation of the project in the subway turnstiles in Rio de Janeiro.
