The Governor of the State of Sao Paulo, João Doria; the Minister of Infrastructure of Brazil, Tarcisio Gomes de Freitas, and the Metropolitan Transportation Secretary of the State of Sao Paulo, Alexandre Baldy, announced at the end of May that a monorail line will be built to connect Line 13-Jade of Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM), with the passenger terminal of the International Airport of Sao Paulo (GRU), in the city of Guarulhos (SP).
R$ 175 million will be invested, granted with funds from the GRU Airport concessionaire. The work will begin in September this year, with completion expected in May 2021. The route runs through Union land granted to GRU Airport and, therefore, there will be no need for expropriation.
The monorail will be 2.6 km long, with stops at the three passenger terminals of the airport and the CPTM Guarulhos Airport Station, with capacity of 2 thousand passengers per hour. The monorail will take in about six minutes the total route between the CPTM Station and the Airport Terminal 3.
It is expected that passengers will be able to reach Guarulhos Airport in 52 minutes from Paulista Avenue and 40 minutes from Luz Station, in the central region of São Paulo.
The Guarulhos Airport station in Line 13-Jade, is located 500 meters away from Terminal 1; 1.5 km from Terminal 2 and 2 km from Terminal 3 (International). Operated by CPTM, Line 13-Jade carries 14 thousand passengers/day, with 12.2 km of extension and 3 stations.
