National Association of Passenger Rail Operators (ANPTrilhos) Board of Directors has met the recently elected Vice-President of Brazil, Hamilton Mourão in Brasília, Brazil’s Capital, to present five priority themes for the advancement of national urban mobility to the new Government transition team. The proposals are based on a new approach to government investment, a priority in rail systems, as the backbone of a broad integrated transport network with other modes.

The President of ANPTrilhos, Joubert Flores, the Directors of the Association, João Gouveia Ferrão Neto, Luis Valença, José Eduardo Copello and José Cláudio Sicco, and the Superintendent of ANPTrilhos, Roberta Marchesi explained to the Vice-President and members of the transition team that the adoption of the measures will offer Brazilian citizens, in a short time, a strategic infrastructure of national mobility, connecting all medium and large cities and also the metropolitan regions.

“Brazil needs to develop solutions to improve quality in urban mobility. Metro rail transportation is fundamental to our major cities,” said the elected Vice President General Hamilton Mourão.

The meeting was also attended by Levy Fidelix, the National President of PRTB, and members of the transition team of the new government Paulo Roberto Correa Assis, Carlos Moufarrege, Marcelo Moufarrege and Marco Aurélio Vieira.

The five measures suggested by the ANPTrilhos are:

1) Elaboration of a comprehensive Plan for the Strategic Structuring of National Urban Mobility, focusing on the transportation of passengers on rails;
2) Investment priorities in the National Urban Mobility Plan;
3) Strengthen Regulatory Milestones – Legal Security;
4) Incentive for the modernization and expansion of rail passenger transport systems;
5) Institution of more attractive financing rates for structural projects of sustainable passenger transport.

ANPTrilhos is following the Government transition moves in relation to the definitions for the area of Urban Mobility and believes that the new team has an innovative look at the country’s infrastructure and the courage to face old problems, rescuing more than 60 years of public policies that prioritized only individual transport, so that it is possible to leave an important legacy of developing national mobility for future generations.
