Aiming to make people aware of the importance of providing a safe environment for all in transportation systems, UITP (International Association of Public Transport), in partnership with the World Bank and the support of ANPTrilhos (National Association of Passenger Rail Operators), has launched the campaign #PT4ME (in Portuguese #Mobi4All) “Public Transport for all, for u, for me”
The initiative is attended by about 100 public transport operators from around the world, which will release posts on social networks and a video to raise awareness about gender issues in public transport. According to UITP, this is one of the major challenges facing the industry and it is urgent to act and help provide a safe environment for all. The focus is curbing harassment in the systems. “Together, we can be the voice that will help women around the world gain access to more secure public transportation environments!” Explains Juridir Fernandes, president of the UITP Latin America Division.
The operators of passenger transport systems on rails in Brazil carry out constant campaigns aiming at the best service to the passengers. In all train and subway stations there are security agents ready to act and to receive the complaint of people who feel injured, not only for harassment, but for theft, aggression, among other cases.
“Our operators work daily to ensure passenger safety and repudiate any type of violence against citizens’ rights, regardless of gender, ethnic or social status. For that reason, ANPTrilhos congratulates and supports the UITP initiative in favor of safe public transport, “says ANPTrilhos Superintendent Roberta Marchesi.
