Paper with proposals from the sector was launched at the ANPTrilhos Mobility Forum
National Association of Passenger Rail Operators (ANPTrilhos) launched the paper “2018 Elections – Proposals for the Advancement of National Urban Mobility” at the opening of ANPTrilhos Mobility Forum, which took place on July 18, in Brasilia, Brazil’s capital. The document is addressed to President Candidates and the state governments aiming to present the proposals of the metro rail sector, which transports 10 million people per day throughout Brazil.
The proposals in the document present the scenario and suggested solutions:
1. Increase the productivity of the public transportation network and reduce government funding;
2. Prioritize public investments in structuring high capacity transport systems; and
3. Encourage clean and sustainable transport to improve the quality of life in cities.
According to Joubert Flores, President of ANPTrilhos, to increase the participation of rail systems in the country, it will be necessary to increase supply, implement physical and price integration with other modes of transportation and adopt public policies focused on improving the quality of public transportation, which includes the implementation of new sources financing. “We advocate a broad and integrated network among the different modals, which will effectively result in the expansion of mobility in medium and large Brazilian cities in the short term. The paper Proposals for the Advancement of National Urban Mobility, which we give to President Candidates and state governments, presents the actions related to urban mobility that the country needs to adopt urgently to reduce the deficit”, comments the executive.
During the Mobility Forum, the document was delivered by the Board of ANPTrilhos to the President pre-Candidates Geraldo Alckmin, Henrique Meirelles and Levy Fidelix; to the Governor of the State of Bahia, Rui Costa; to the Secretary of State of São Paulo, Clodoaldo Pelissioni, representing the Governor of São Paulo; and the Transport Secretary of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Vieira.
