The Metropolitan Company of the Federal District, responsible for the Metro of Brasília, inaugurated at the end of December the Samambaia Sul Solar Station, a clean energy minigeneration project from renewable natural resources. With this, Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, now has two subway stations totally supplied by photovoltaic solar energy.
Samambaia Sul Solar Station has 561 panels and the capacity to generate 308 thousand kilowatt-hours per year, equivalent to 100% of the station’s consumption. Photovoltaic panels have a 25-year efficiency guarantee.
The setting up of photovoltaic panels is part of the Sustainable Metrô program, which brings together projects for: use of renewable energy in the metro rail system, implementation of the environmental agenda in public administration and awareness of passengers and employees regarding the rational use of natural resources.
