Maringá evaluates implantation of Light Rail in the city

The city of Maringá, which is located in the northwest region in Paraná State in the south of Brazil, wishes to implant a Light Rail line. The third biggest city in the state, with more than 400 thousand inhabitants, will receive on the next days the visit of consultants from a French company specialized in the transport of freight and passengers. The visit is going to have the objective a previous analysis of the feasibility for the system implantation.

In June of this year, the vice-Mayor of Maringá Edson Scabora and the City’s Secretary of Urban Mobility Gilberto Purpur took part in a technical visit promoted by National Association of Passenger Rail Operators (ANPTrilhos) to the Light Rail of Rio de Janeiro city. The Rio de Janeiro’s model inspires the pretensions of Maringá City to become the first in the South of the country to count on this mean of transport.

The first Light Rail line to be built in Maringá should be around 8.5 km long between Praça Geoffrey Wilde Diment and the old airport. The project should be implanted in 3 years.
